Kotagiri is a small town situated in the Nilgiri Hills, which is a part of the Western Ghats. The little town of Kotagiri is situated comfortably at an elevation 1,800m above sea level. When you start climbing the mountain you will be welcomed with the scent of Eucalyptus in the air and the crisp mountain breeze blessing your face. Kotagiri is the lesser populated town in the Niliri Hills, as compared to Ooty – another popular tourist spot which is a 29 kilometre drive away

The little town of Kotagiri is surrounded with tea plantations, vast and beautiful landscapes and plenty of valleys – offering great trekking and hiking opportunities. The town originally got its name from the tribe who populated the hill – The Kota’s. Speak to the locals to hear some interesting stories about these locals, you may still be able to spot them if you’re lucky

Calista Sunshine is a beautiful Colonial British style Bungalow on the hills of Kotagiri. The gateway opens into a regal and curved driveway to the villa porch. It may remind you of the lavish villas Jane Austin talks about in Pride and Prejudice. The villa is surrounded by a lawn which has beautiful colourful flowers and a gazebo to sit out and enjoy fresh Nilgiri tea.

The interiors of the Villa include a lot of dark Rose Wood antique furniture and leather couches, it retains the colonial feel of the bungalow architecture. Above antique drawer chests and cabinets there are old restored paintings hanging on the walls of this villa. There are plenty of windows which open up to the beautiful view of the garden and the valley which bring in the fresh mountain breeze and sunshine.

All the bedrooms have four post rose wood beds with lace trimmings on the roof. Antique dressing tables, treasure chest like drawer cabinets, study tables and an attached bathroom. The villa also has a study, with a strong rose wood desk, a leather arm chair and a wooden chess table. Beautiful antique paintings cover the walls of this villa. Calista Sunshine is the perfect getaway villa for a group of friends or family to experience living in a lost era in today’s time.
